YouTuber Holger Chen has been released on bail of 150,000 N-T after being questioned for calling for the president's beheading.
The Criminal Investigation Bureau says it opened an investigation into the incident after receiving several reports claiming Chen made violent comments about harming President Lai Ching-te during an October 5 livestream on YouTube.
According to the bureau it has collected evidence and asked the New Taipei District Prosecutors' Office to oversee the investigation.
Speaking to reporters before being questioned on Wednesday, Chen said he "had no intent to threaten anyone" and accused what he called "green terror" of targeting opposition figures.
The social media influencer is facing possible charges of violating Article 153 of the Criminal Code, which prohibits inciting others to commit crimes, and Article 305 of the Code, which covers intimidation.
The Criminal Investigation Bureau is refusing to say whether the case involves the National Security Act - saying only that it is still under investigation and currently focused on intimidation and incitement offenses.
