Guangfu Area Cordoned Off Amid Pesticide Leak

Authorities in Hualien County have cordoned off an area in Guangfu Township
after a pesticide leak was discovered.



The leak happened when an overflow from the dammed lake on the Mata'an
River caused a storm drain to flood.

The flooding ruptured containers of stored pesticides, and at least one
resident was taken to the hospital yesterday after feeling ill.



Officials say the area near Zhongxue Street in Daping Village is now secured.

Officials say the area will remain fenced off, and the mud will be placed in
a secluded spot to decompose naturally through sun exposure.

Authorities are continuing to monitor concentration levels in the area.
