Traffic congestion is building on Taiwan's freeways as the Mid-Autumn Festival holiday comes to an end, with one major section already at a standstill.
According to real-time national highway traffic data, by noon today, the northbound section of National Freeway 5 from Yilan to Toucheng was experiencing a "purple alert," with speeds under 20 kilometers per hour.
Congestion was also reported on other sections of Freeways 1, 3, and 5.
The Freeway Bureau predicts that this afternoon, 11 sections of the national freeways will see severe congestion, which is not expected to ease until after 10 p.m.
