Illegal Dog Breeding Operation Busted in Taoyuan

Authorities in Taoyuan have shut down an illegal dog breeding operation in
Daxi (大溪) District, rescuing 37 purebred dogs.

Officials say the animals included Labradors, Pomeranians, Shiba Inus, and
Maltese.

Many showed signs of long-term neglect, such as overgrown nails, matted fur,
and repeated breeding.

Investigators traced the operation to an abandoned pigsty, where the breeder
admitted to selling puppies for between one to two thousand NT each.

Under the Animal Protection Act, the breeder now faces fines up to three
million NT.

The dogs are being kept in custody while their health and origins are
assessed.

If any evidence of abuse leading to serious injury or death is found, the
case will be referred to prosecutors.

Once the investigation concludes, healthy dogs will be made available for
adoption through a lottery system.
