Taoyuan Launches Light Pollution Control Plan

Taoyuan is launching Taiwan's first multi-agency plan to control light
pollution and is seeking international certification for a dark-sky reserve.

The city's Environmental Protection Department says light pollution is a
major environmental problem that harms human health and disrupts ecosystems.

So the city is establishing a framework, with the department coordinating
policy while other agencies manage specific aspects, such as regulating light
pollution sources

And Taoyuan is also partnering with its tourism and scenic area management
offices, to apply for certification from DarkSky International for the Lala
Mountain area.

Officials say Lala Mountain with its unique cloud forest ecology, would
become an international destination for stargazing, and would promote a new
low-carbon tourism model centered on ecological experiences.
