Police in Miaoli have detained a former convict for allegedly stabbing three
people, including two elementary-school children.

The incident occured when a group of elementary-school children were near the
convenience store close to the city's Jhongjheng Road.

According to the Miaoli City Police Department, a woman managed to get the
school children's attention and helped them leave the area, however, several
children were injured.

An 11-year-old school girl was stabbed in her chest, while another
11-year-old school girl suffered a small cut on her chest and lacerations on
her right elbow.

An adult was stabbed in the abdomen and back.

Police say the suspect was later arrested at his home after being subdued
with a stun gun about an hour after the incident.

The man was released from prison in March after serving eight years for a
stabbing incident in December of 2015.

Miaoli County Commissioner Chung Dong-qin says the man has mental health
problems and should not have been released if he posed a threat to society.
