The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is refuting China's position paper on Resolution 2758 adopted by the United Nations in 1971, which Beijing has used as the basis to claim sovereignty over Taiwan.
The ministry says U-N resolution 2758 only expelled the representatives of Chiang Kai-shek "from the place which they unlawfully occupy at the United Nations and in all the organizations related to it" ...
... it added the resolution does not mention Taiwan, nor does it state that Taiwan... it also does not give Beijing the right to represent Taiwan in the U-N.
MOFA's statement comes a day after China's foreign ministry posted a position paper on Resolution 2758 on its website... and after General Debates involving the 80th session of the U-N General Assembly wrapped up in New York.
That position paper claimed that Resolution 2758 "confirms and fully embodies the one-China principle" and accused the U-S and a handful of other countries of "distorting and challenging Resolution 2758" in a bid to pave the way for Taiwan to seek "international space."
MOFA here called China's misinterpretation of the resolution "absurd and ridiculous" and "exposes" Beijing's "attempt to sabotage the rules-based world order."
