The Taiwan High Court is due to issue its verdict on Hsinchu Mayor Gao Hong-an on December 16th.
The Taipei District Court sentenced Gao to seven years 4 months on charges of corruption, saying that she had exploited her position as a lawmaker to defraud her office assistants of nearly 120,000 NT.
Gao was a TPP lawmaker before being elected as Hsin-chu Mayor in November 2022, but then got suspended in July 2024 due to the lawsuit.
During today's final court session on the case, Gao tearfully denied all wrongdoing, insisting that she didn't put a dime into her own pocket, pleading the court to acquit her.
For Gao's four office assistants, the High Court sentenced three to prison terms of one to two years, suspended for three to five years, while acquitting the fourth.
