New Taipei ups subsidies for renovation of old houses

New Taipei City is increasing its subsidy for renovating old homes, with the
highest available subsidy being 15 million NT, available to cover up to 85%
of the cost of the renovations.

The subsidy is not just available for reinforcing weak parts of these old
homes; the updated regulations broaden who is eligible for the subsidies.

It can also be used for earthquake-proofing these older homes, or to add
elevators to buildings lacking them.

The city government says, the agreement threshold for the subsidies has also
been lowered, such that now only 50% of building owners need to agree to
renovate to be eligible for the subsidy.

They add that currently, over 471 projects have been approved for
multi-faceted renovation and maintenance funding, and the city government
also offers free on-site inspections and consultations.
