Former DPP members sentenced for spying for China

The Taipei District Court has sentenced former D-P-P staffers to prison
terms ranging from 10 to four years for spying for China.

All four had been charged with violating the Classified National Security
Information Protection Act.

Huang Chu-rong, a former assistant to D-P-P New Taipei Councilor Lee Yu-tien,
was sentenced to 10 years.

Ho Ren-chieh, who previously served as an assistant to Joseph Wu when he was
foreign minister, was sentenced to eight years.

Former deputy head of the D-P-P's Taiwan Institute of Democracy, Chiu
Shih-yuan was handed a six year sentence.

While former Presidential Office advisor, Wu Shang-yu was sentenced to four
years in prison.

They were all indicted by the Taipei District Prosecutors' Office in June.

Prosecutors has been seeking an 18 year sentence for Huang.

The prosecutors' office says it is still reviewing the court ruling and could
appeal the verdicts.
