Brown bears in Alaska are at maximum weight just in time for the wildly popular online voting contest, lovingly entitled Fat Bear Week.
12 bears will compete for votes in a weeklong, single-elimination, bracket-style tournament starting Tuesday local time at fatbearweek.org.
The public can view the bears on live cams at explore.org.
The contest showcases the resilience of the bears, who pack on weight each year at Brooks River in Katmai National Park and Preserve to survive the harsh winter.
There are about 2,200 brown bears within Katmai, a nearly 17,000 square kilometer park on the Alaska Peninsula.
To be featured in the contest, the bears must frequent the area of the main Brooks Camp.
