Animal protection officers in Keelung says a dog that bit mailman's finger off remains at a pet shelter.
The incident occured on Monday near Er Xin Senior High School and resulted in the mailman losing the first joint of his right ring finger
The mailman was rushed to Keelung Hospital for emergency treatment and police located the severed finger at the entrance of an alley, placed it in a plastic bag, and delivered it to the hospital.
A school security guard has told local media that the dog has a history of attacking passersby.
Animal protection officers later tranquilized the dog before taking to a pet shelter.
The owner of the dog could face a fine of up to 15,000 N-T for leaving the animal unaccompanied in a public place in violation of the Animal Protection Act.
