After seasonal adjustments, the rate rose zero-point-zero-two percentage points from July to stand at 3.35-per cent.
In the first eight months of this year, the unemployment rate averaged 3.35-per cent.
That was a decline of zero-point-zero-four percentage points from a year earlier.
The government says although the latest unemployment rate was boosted by an increase in first-time jobseekers, it is still the lowest in August for 25 years - and the graduation season effects are expected to decline this month.
However, officials are warning that if the rate bucks that expection in September, that could mean the U-S tariff impact will become more apparent.
