Iraq Set to Open First Indusrial-Scale Solar Plant

Iraq is opening its first industrial-scale solar plant in Karbala province.

This marks a significant step in the government's push to expand renewable
energy in a country often facing electricity crises despite its oil and gas
wealth.

The plant aims to supply the national grid and reduce fuel consumption and
environmental impact.

The new plant should eventually have a capacity of 300 megawatts of
electricity.

Iraq has solar projects with a combined capacity of 12,500 megawatts either
underway or in negotiation.

These projects could supply up to 20% of Iraq's electricity demand, helping
to alleviate chronic shortages.
