Despite power rate hike, Taipower will see NT$410 billion in losses

The Ministry of Economic Affairs says state-run TaiPower will still face more than $410 billion NT in accumulated losses even after household electricity rates go up in October.
The 3.12 percent increase for residential and small business users is expected to bring in about $6.4 billion NT a year.
But officials say that's far from enough to offset years of heavy losses caused by high global fuel prices.
Industrial users will not see rate changes.
Taipower has been running in the red ... with households paying $2.77 NT per kilowatt-hour compared to a supply cost of $3.80 NT.
The Cabinet stressed that even after the hike, Taiwan's rates remain lower than those in South Korea, Japan, and Singapore.
Business groups warned the hike could raise living costs, while officials said the impact on inflation will be limited.
