Taipei's Animal Protection Office is reminding pet owners to take extra care during thunderstorms, as rough weather is in the forecast for the next few days.
The office says loud noises like thunder and fireworks can cause dogs to panic and escape their homes, citing recent cases involving two dog rescues last month.
Officials say pets that are found wandering alone can result in a fine of up to $15-thousand NT for their owner.
The office is urging pet owners to make sure their animals are secure, by checking leashes or harnesses and all around the home.
