Kaohsiung is starting work to improve drainage on several major roadways around the light rail's "Kai-syuan Jhong-hua Station".
The city government says the area in "Cianjhen District" is prone to flooding during heavy rains, which affects traffic and the light rail.
Officials say the project, funded by a $40-million NT grant from the central government, includes building a new culvert to divert rainwater away from the light rail.
And the construction will also include rebuilding existing gutters.
The city expects to complete the project by the end of next year, and will try to keep affected roads open as much as possible.
But it also advises drivers to use nearby roads to get around the construction.
