TSMC Rejects Reports it had Halted Plans to Build Fab in Chiayi

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company is pushing back against rumours it
has halted plans for a second advanced packaging plant in Chiayi.

Local media had suggested equipment originally meant for the Chiayi facility
would be diverted to the company's massive Arizona expansion in the United
States.

However, T-S-M-C stressed today that its investment plans in Taiwan remain
unchanged.

Earlier this year, the chipmaker announced it would invest an additional 100
billion U-S dollars in Arizona, bringing its total U-Ｓ investment to 165
billion dollars...

That raised concerns in Taiwan about whether U-S projects might come at the
expense of domestic investment.

Chiayi officials had said the first local packaging plant would begin
installing equipment this quarter, with a second plant targeted for
completion in 2026 and mass production in 2028.
