In news from and about Taiwan this morning,
C-S-B-C says its first indigenous submarine will miss its September deadline for completing sea acceptance tests.
Sea trials for the Narwhal began in June.
Navy Chief of Staff Chiu Chun-rong says the vessel is still moored in a port and needs to clear a safety assessment before it can undergo surfaced and submerged tests at sea.
According to C-S-B-C President Tsai Kun-zong, completing the sea acceptance trials this month is now "impossible" due to the current progress.
The shipbuilder's chairman Chen Cheng-hong says the company will make every effort to accelerate progress of ongoing trials without sacrificing safety.
The Navy has warned C-S-B-C that it will face a fine if it fails to deliver the submarine by November as stipulated in the contract.
