TaiPower Says Power Supply Remains Stable Despite Recent Outages

TaiPower says recent incidents have cut 2.1 million kilowatts of electricity from the grid—equal to about six percent of peak nighttime demand.
However, officials insist that supply remains stable.
TaiPower Chairman Tseng Wen-sheng (曾文生) says emergency reserve units have now been activated, ensuring that nighttime reserve margins will stay above six percent, or roughly two million kilowatts, through the end of the month.
This comes after a recent explosion at Kaohsiung’s Hsingda Power Plant caused one of the units to suspend power generation.
And on top of that, the Linkou No. 2 coal-fired generator went offline yesterday due to a malfunction, cutting another 800 thousand kilowatts.
Officials acknowledge the system is under pressure, but insist supply remains stable, with repairs and inspections underway to bring capacity back to normal by October.
