TaiPower Chairman Tseng Wen-sheng (曾文生) says a general status report on Taiwan's three nuclear power plants will be released by the end of this month or early next.
Tseng explained that all plants are being evaluated, but the No. 3 facility is in the best condition to begin a full self-inspection.
That review will cover issues such as aging management and seismic safety, and TaiPower plans to work with the plant's original manufacturer to ensure accuracy.
The Nuclear Safety Commission is also drafting new regulations on restarting existing nuclear reactors, expected in October.
That framework would allow TaiPower to formally carry out self-assessments under official guidelines.
As for the No. 2 plant, Tseng said safety checks can only move forward once spent nuclear fuel rods are removed and placed in dry storage.
