Smaller parties form alliance for 2026 local elections

The New Power Party, the Taiwan Statebuilding Party, the Taiwan Obasang Political Equality Party and the Green Party Taiwan say they plan to join forces for next year's local elections.
The cooperation agreement was announced at a press conferance.
The press conferance was attend by N-P-P Chairwoman Claire Wang, Taiwan Statebuilding Party Chairman Wang Xing-huan, Taiwan Obasang Political Equality Party convener Lin Shih-han and Green Party Taiwan co-convener Joyance Wang.
They signed a joint declaration at the event.
The declaration outlines shared principles, including defending Taiwan against Chinese aggression, strengthening national defense and coordinating nominations to maximize local council seats.
It also pledges to narrow the wealth gap, protect the environment and accelerate the energy transition.
The N-P-P's Claire Wang says that the partnership is the first time in Taiwan's political history that more than two political parties had formed an alliance - and the four parties have a firm stance on Taiwan's sovereignty and a rejection of plutocracy.
