The Taipei District Prosecutors' Office is appealing a decision by the Taipei District Court to release Taiwan People's Party founder and former chairman Ko Wen-je on bail, pending his trial on corruption charges.
Prosecutors say a defendant should be detained until witness questioning is complete.
They are scheduled to meet with several witnesses in October... including Taipei City Department of Urban Development director Huang Ching-mao, former Taipei deputy mayor and T-P-P lawmaker Huang Shan-shan, and Wu Shun-min, an assistant to K-M-T Taipei City Councilor Angela Ying.
Prosecutors claim Ko has instructed other people to post social media messages under his name... to collude with witnesses to give false testimony and to influence public opinion when he was in detention.
The prosecutors' office also say Ko violated his bail terms by contacting two witnesses in the corruption case shortly after his release, while saying another suspect in the corruption case was innocent.
Ko was released from the Taipei Detention Center on Monday on bail of 70-million N-T.
He is required to wear an ankle monitor, banned from leaving his residence and prohibited from contacting codefendants or witnesses in the case.
