Former Interior Minister Hsu Kuo-yung has been appointed D-P-P secretary-general.
Hsu has hosted a political talk show since stepping down as interior minister in December of 2022.
He's expected to officially take office on August 25 -- two days after a final round of recall votes targeting K-M-T lawmakers and a national referendum on the future of the Maanshan Nuclear Power Plant.
Hsu's appointment was announced by President Lai Ching-te during a meeting of the D-P-P's party Central Standing Committee.
Speaking at that meeting, Lai described Hsu as "a well-rounded choice" for the role, citing his extensive political career and noting that he not only understands local political dynamics but is also adept at policy communication.
Hsu will take the post left vacent by Lin Yu-chang - who resigned on July 27 following the D-P-P's failed effort to recall 24 K-M-T lawmakers at the end of July.
