A Hong Kong pro-democracy activist and a former lawmaker have been granted asylum in Great Britain and in Australia.
Tony Chung, imprisoned under Hong Kong's national security law, and Ted Hui, facing trial for his role in 2019 protests, announced their asylum over the weekend.
Civil liberties in Hong Kong have eroded since Beijing imposed its national security law in 2020.
Hong Kong's goverment condemned the decisions, saying it was a contempt for the rule of law.
Hui and Chung are among dozens of activists on the run from Hong Kong authorities.
