Health Minister Qiu Tai Yuan is urging the public to sign up to become organ donors, touting organ donation as giving people a second chance at life.
There are over 10,000 people in Taiwan currently waiting for organ donation, while 3.3 people on average pass away each day because they are unable to get an organ they need.
Therefore, Linkou's Changgeng memorial hospital is putting on an event today to encourage the public to sign up.
Qiu said that the hospital has world class technology, which, combined with organ donors, can save lives.
A patient who received a lung donation told reporters that she developed pulmonary fibrosis, but after receibing a lung donation, she was able to stand, walk, and even ride a bike after having been bedridden.
She expressed sincere gratitude to the donor who gave her a second chance at life.
