The Health Promotion Administration reminds everyone that heated tobacco products are banned from online sales and advertising.
It says that under the Tobacco Hazards Prevention Act, individual sellers risk fines up to $550 thousand NT, while tobacco companies face penalties of up to $25 million NT and online platforms up to $1 million NT.
The warning follows an anti-tobacco coalition pointing out that a simple websearch for such products reveals dozens of websites openly selling and advertising heated tobacco products.
The HPA says, this could undo decades of tobacco control progress.
The HPA emphasized that all tobacco products are equally harmful to health and hopes to "block them at the source".
Since the revised act took effect in March 2023, authorities have issued over 7 thousand fines, totaling over $580 million NT.
