Interior minister seeks to clarify China 'recognition' comment

Interior Minister Liu Shyh-fang is seeking to walk-back a comment she made earlier this week - in which she suggested that Taiwan "recognize" the People's Republic of China.
Her remark has drawn criticism from opposition figures - with Ma Ying-jeou Foundation Executive Director Hsiao Hsu-tsen calling for her resignation ...
... and arguing that Liu's statement was "unconstitutional."
However, the interior minister is insisting her comment was made "from the standpoint of the government of the Republic of China" and was focused on how her office applies the law.
Liu also says the government "recognizes" the P-R-C insofar as it recognizes P-R-C documents, including those issued by the P-R-C government-affiliated Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Strait as "effective legal documents."
The dispute over Liu's wording was sparked by comments she made concerning the eligibility of China-born spouses of Taiwanese citizens to run for office.
