Legislature takes step in bid to abolish Control Yuan

Meanwhile,
The Legislative Yuan has approved the formation of a special Constitutional Amendment Committee to consider abolishing the Control Yuan — the government watchdog responsible for investigations, censures, and impeachments.
The 39-member committee reflects the makeup of the Legislature: 19 KMT, 17 DPP, and 3 Taiwan People's Party TPP lawmakers.
The move follows a joint proposal by the KMT and TPP to amend the Constitution and eliminate the Control Yuan, which they say has acted in favor of the ruling DPP.
The amendment would shift impeachment powers to the Legislature.
TPP Chair Huang Kuo-chang confirmed in June that the proposal had the support of over a quarter of lawmakers — enough to initiate the amendment process.
The committee's first meeting is scheduled for August 25.
