DPP calls for Legislative Speaker to explain BYD dinner

DPP Legislative Caucus Secretary General Wu Si-yao is urging senior KMT
figures Han Kuo-yu and Johnny Chiang to clarify their stance on a
controversial dinner.

The event involved Legislative Yuan official Liao Jiong-zhi (廖炯志) and a
local distributor for Chinese automaker BYD.

Liao has denied any wrongdoing, stating he has no business ties with Taikoo
Motors Group and did not violate the civil servant code of ethics.

Though Wu expressed concerns that such interactions could complicate Taiwan's
ongoing tariff negotiations with the United States.

Washington is seeking to curb the trans-shipment of China-made vehicles.
