A former top official at the Financial Supervisory Commission has been sentenced to four years and five months in prison in connection with a stock-rigging case dating back two decades.
The Taiwan High Court handed down the ruling today in the fifth re-trial of Lee Chin-cheng (李進誠), who headed the FSC’s Examination Bureau in 2005.
Lee was convicted of leaking confidential details of a government investigation into Power Quotient International, which were used for stock market gains.
The sentence was slightly reduced from a previous ruling and includes electronic monitoring until August 2026.
Originally sentenced to 10 years in 2005, Lee’s case has seen multiple appeals and reversals.
