Taiwan close to record deal with Alaska for 6 million tons of LNG: Governor

Taiwan is nearing a historic deal to purchase 6 million tons of liquefied natural gas from Alaska—the largest sale of its kind in the state's history.
Alaska Governor Mike Dunleavy confirmed the move, which would account for nearly a third of the planned output from the $44 billion USD Alaska LNG Project.
US officials say the deal could bolster regional energy security, particularly with rising tensions with China.
However, Taiwan's government has yet to comment, and no official agreement has been signed.
This comes as the U-S prepares to impose a 20% tariff on Taiwanese goods starting August 7, a higher rate than on imports from Japan and South Korea.
President Lai Ching-te called the tariff "tentative", saying negotiations are still ongoing.
The U-S currently supplies 10% of Taiwan's LNG, behind Australia and Qatar.
The Alaska LNG Project is set to begin exports by 2030.
