Lai apologizes for recall defeat and vows support for August 23 votes

President Lai Ching-te has apologized for the failure of last Saturday's recall votes targeting 24 K-M-T lawmakers and says he will "take full" responsibility for the results.
Speaking at a D-P-P Central Standing Committee meeting, Lai said he's aware the some people found the outcome of the recall votes disappointing and regrettable .. and he wants to express his deep apology to civic groups and supporters.
Lai pledged his "full support" for the remaining campaigns targeting seven K-M-T lawmakers and said the D-P-P will continue to stand shoulder to shoulder with every citizen working tirelessly for the recalls.
Lai went onto to say that acting D-P-P Secretary-General Ho Po-wen has been tasked with supporting the campaigns during what he described as "crucial moment."
Ho was appointed to fill the post left vacant by Lin You-chang - who resigned as D-P-P secretary-general on Monday following the recall failures.
