In news from and about Taiwan this morning,

President Lai Ching-te has apologized for the failure of last Saturday's
recall votes targeting 24 K-M-T lawmakers and says he will "take full"
responsibility for the results.

Speaking at a D-P-P Central Standing Committee meeting, Lai said he's aware
the some people found the outcome of the recall votes disappointing and
regrettable .. and he wants to express his deep apology to civic groups and
supporters.

Lai pledged his "full support" for the remaining campaigns targeting seven
K-M-T lawmakers and said the D-P-P will continue to stand shoulder to
shoulder with every citizen working tirelessly for the recalls.

Lai went onto to say that acting D-P-P Secretary-General Ho Po-wen has been
tasked with supporting the campaigns during what he described as "crucial
moment."

Ho was appointed to fill the post left vacant by Lin You-chang - who resigned
as D-P-P secretary-general on Monday following the recall failures.
