Court Stalemate Continues as Lai's Nominees Rejected Again
Posted on 2025-07-25 16:23:14
The Constitutional Court remains paralyzed after lawmakers rejected all seven
of President Lai Ching-te's nominees.

The opposition KMT and TPP, which hold a majority, voted down the picks,
citing concerns over political bias.

Some DPP lawmakers also opposed two of the candidates.

This is Lai's second failed attempt to fill court vacancies after a similar
rejection last December.

The court now has only eight justices, below the constitutionally required 15.

Under new measures adopted last December, a quorum of 10 justices is required
for adjudication.

The deadlock leaves Taiwan's top court unable to function or rule on
constitutional issues.
