China puts 8 Taiwanese firms on export control list

China's Ministry of Commerce has announced export restrictions against eight Taiwanese companies.
They have been placed on China's export control list under the Export Control Law of the People's Republic of China and the Regulations of the People's Republic of China on the Export Control of Dual-use Items.
The restrictions are effective immediately and prohibit Chinese exports of dual-use items, with both civilian and military applications.
The affected companies are all closely related to Taiwan's military.
They include the Aerospace Industrial Development Corporation, Geosat Aerospace & Technology, the National Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology, C-S-B-C and Lungteh Shipbuilding.
Wu Si-zhi of the Taiwan Thinktank called the move "more superficial than substantive" as the firms have weak or no links with China.
Su says the sanctions could be aimed at responding to President Lai Ching-te's recent comment concerning China and the government's moves to prioritize defense resilience and defense autonomy.
