The Central Weather Administration has issued a tropical depression message, saying that the system could strengthen into a tropical storm called Danas as early as 8 PM tonight.
If that happens, the CWA will issue a sea warning at the same time as the storm will be quite close to the island.
It's now some 370 kilometers southwest of Taiwan's E-luan-bi and moving very slowly in a northwesterly direction.
Forecasters say it's expected to switch northward and then northeastward to enter the Taiwan Strait on Sunday, and affect the western half of Taiwan as it goes upward.
The CWA is not ruling out the possibility of the system making landfall, saying that a land warning may be issued tomorrow night.
Although the system probably won't become stronger than a tropical storm, it's expected to bring torrential rain to Taiwan's south and southeast, and heavy rain in localized areas elsewhere across the island on Sunday.
It'll should pull away from us around noontime on Monday .
Meanwhile ferry companies have announced suspension of services between Taiwan proper and Green Island and Orchid Island for the 6th.
