Taiwan's egg prices are set to fall again as high temperatures and seasonal changes dampen demand.
As of today, the farm gate price has dropped $3 NT per catty—to $22.5 NT.
That will put wholesale prices at 32 NT per catty starting tomorrow.
The chair of the Taipei Egg Merchants Association says hot weather is curbing consumer appetite, while school summer breaks have halted institutional meal services.
He's urging farmers to scale back production.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Taiwan currently has over 36 million laying hens producing 127-thousand cartons of eggs per day—about 7 thousand more than daily demand.
