With warms winds coming from the east and clear skies, people in the north have experienced a sweltering day today.
The highest temperature islandwide, at 39.1 degrees Celsius, occurred in Taoyuan’s Luzhu District at 1 PM.
Those in other places in Taoyuan, New Taipei, and outlying Kinmen also saw their mercury exceed 38°.
The Central Weather Administration's orange heat alert remains in place for many locations in northern Taiwan and two coastal townships in Hualien and Taidong.
An orange alert means the mercury can reach 38 degrees in one day or reach 36 degrees for three consecutive days.
Forecasters say the Pacific high-pressure system that's bringing the sunny weather is expected to hover over Taiwan until Thursday.
