The Food and Drug Administration has flagged over 160 kilograms of the
popular “Dubai Chocolate” for containing illegal levels of preservatives.

The product — labeled VIGO KUNAFA CHOCOLATE — was found to contain
preservative well above the legal limit.

Officials say the issue came from its unsalted butter ingredient, which had
more than three times the allowed amount of the preservative.

As a result, the importer now faces tighter scrutiny, with up to 50 percent
of future shipments subject to random inspections.

The tainted chocolate has been either returned or destroyed, along with the
other problematic imports listed in the FDA's latest report.

Those include French mustard, Chinese herbs, dried chili peppers from
Nigeria, and frozen fish from Indonesia.

Most of the other items were flagged for excessive pesticide residues.
