TPP chair Huang Guo-chang has outlined four draft bills, including the extension of the number 3 nuclear power plant and life sentences without parole for serious crimes, that his party is determined to push through this summer.
Huang said public polls have shown the combined percentage of respondents who were either strongly supportive or somewhat supportive of extending the power plant was around 70%.
He's optimistic about the referendum on the power plant scheduled for August 23rd as over 75% of respondents said they would “definitely” or “probably” vote.
Huang said there's also a very strong support, at 90-percent, for life sentences without parole for serious crimes such as serial killings.
Under current law, inmates serving life imprisonment may apply for parole after 25 years.
The TPP's public poll was conducted from June 20 to 22nd a total of 1,073 valid samples collected.
