Kaohsiung flooding infrastructure improvements

Kaohsiung has completed major flood prevention upgrades in the city's Hunei
District ... as part of ongoing city-wide efforts.

The project included a renovated drainage line and the construction of a new
pumping station, which local officials say have already helped protect
flood-prone areas during heavy rain.

Residents say they hope the improvements will reduce future typhoon damage.

The city began the work in April 2023, installing over one kilometer of new
sewer infrastructure.

DPP lawmaker Qiu Zhi-wei (邱志偉) helped secure central government funding
for the project.

He noted that rising material costs posed challenges but expressed hope the
improvements will bring long-term benefits to the community.
