A plan announced in March by Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an to remove the roundabout and bus underpass at the intersection of Roosevelt and Keelung roads has been paused after city councilors called for better communication with the public.
Work was originally slated to begin on June 28 before the pause was announced by City Department of Transportation Commissioner Hsieh Ming-hong.
A public hearing on the matter will now be held on June 30.
The Taipei mayor originally announced the road work in a social media post on March 25... he noted that the roundabout's design has created a heightened risk of traffic accidents... it was also a dangerous areas for pedestrians to cross.
However, city councilors argued that there had only been one presentation explaining the plans on May 29 and it had received largely negative feedback from local residents, scooter riders and bus commuters.
