President Lai Ching-te has welcomed a delegation of U-S lawmakers,
The bipartisan delegation arrived in Taiwan on Monday for a three-day visit...
The group is led by U-S Representative Ami Bera, the co-chair of the Congressional Taiwan Caucus and includes members of the House Armed Services Committee and the Foreign Affairs Committee.
During the meeting, Lai thanked Bera for leading the delegation, which he said was evidence of continuing U-S Congressional support for Taiwan.
Lai also reaffirmed his administration's efforts to strengthen Taiwan's self-defense capabilities and maintain peace in the Indo-Pacific, even as he emphasised the importance of enhancing economic ties with the U-S.
The president also expressed his hope that the United States-Taiwan Expedited Double-Tax Relief Act will be passed and signed into law later this year - saying when passed it will boost bilateral trade and investment.
The bill was passed by the U-S House of Representatives on January 15 and is currently under consideration in the Senate.
The delegation is scheduled to meet with Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim and Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung.
