Control Yuan Secretary-General Lee Chun-yi has resigned after admitting that he misused a government vehicle.
His resignation has been accepted by the government watchdog.
In a statement issued explaining why he had resigned, Lee apologized for using a Control Yuan vehicle to transport his dog to a pet grooming salon on May 20 and that he had shown "poor judgment and lack of discretion."
His resignation comes after local media last month reported that Lee instructed his driver to take the dog to the salon.
Photographs taken by an unnamed whistleblower were widely published - which purportedly showed the driver of the Control Yuan vehicle transporting Lee's dog to the salon.
News reports also said Lee had taken his wife to restaurants in the same vehicle and had asked the driver to run personal errands for her.
Acting Control Yuan President Lee Hung-chun has also issued an apology to the public over the issue.
