A second court has sentenced the construction site supervisor responsible for the deadly 2021 Taroko Express train crash to twelve years and six months in prison.
The revised ruling significantly increases the original sentence of seven years and ten months handed to the supervisor, surnamed Lee, who was found guilty of causing death by negligence.
A migrant worker involved in the case, surnamed Hua, was again found not guilty.
Both verdicts can still be appealed.
The crash, which occurred in April 2021, killed 49 people after a construction truck fell from a slope onto the tracks and collided with the train.
Families of the victims had urged the court to convict both men of murder, arguing that Lee acted recklessly and that Hua played a role in moving the truck with an excavator.
After more than two and a half years of legal proceedings, the families say they hope the ruling is a step closer to justice.
