Taiwan says China using cultural summits for 'lectures,' not exchanges

The Mainland Affairs Council has criticized two upcoming summits in Beijing, accusing China of using them to politically lecture Taiwanese attendees rather than promote true cultural exchange.
The events, called the Cross-Strait Chinese Culture Summit and the Cross-Strait Media Summit -- are set to begin this week.
Taiwanese officials say the gatherings, attended by media and cultural figures from Taiwan, are part of China's "united front" tactics and lack genuine cross-strait dialogue.
A delegation including former KMT Chair Hong Xiu-zhu and media mogul Cai Yan-ming (蔡衍明) met with top Chinese official Wang Hu-ning, who called for unity and cultural alignment across the Taiwan Strait.
