Kaohsiung Fines Company for Air Pollution Caused by Fire

Kaohsiung is issuing fines after fire at a warehouse in Renwu District led to significant air pollution.
The city's Environmental Protection Bureau says owners of the plastic warehouse are suspected of improper management, with the fire spreading to a nearby recycling facility and releasing strong odors and thick smoke.
Environmental monitoring at the site showed high levels of carbon monoxide as well as volatile organic compounds and suspend particulates in the air.
The bureau is advisign residents in downwind areas to minimize outdoor activities and keep windows and doors closed to reduce exposure.
The responsible party is liable for fines of up to $5-million NT.
