Taipei MRT Circular Line Begins Construction Connecting Shilin to Dazhi

Construction has begun on the final stretch of the Taipei MRT Circular Line's
north section, connecting Shilin and Dazhi.

Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an attended the groundbreaking ceremony today, saying
that once complete, the full Circular Line will significantly cut travel time
between taipei and New Taipei City, and help ease traffic congestion in
Neihu.

The new section stretches 4.2-kilometers long, and will include a station
near the National Palace Museum with an underground passageway connecting the
station to the museum plaza.

Officials say engineers face many challenges, including shallow rock layers
and soft clay, as well as a tunnel that will pass through a fault zone under
a mountain.

But they say the MRT segment will boost local tourism and businesses, as well
as offer fast travel between districts.
