The Supreme Court has upheld a 10-year, six-month prison sentence for a Thai migrant worker convicted of fatally stabbing his compatriot in Miaoli County nearly two years ago.
The final ruling confirms that Ladta Aphisit, formerly employed at a construction firm in Tongluo Township, was guilty of killing Kamsookdee Wichin after a dormitory argument over a loud phone call on December 8, 2023.
Ladta stabbed the victim 11 times with a fruit knife, leading to his death from multiple organ failure and septic shock. He later surrendered to police and confessed.
Initially sentenced to nine years and 10 months, his term was increased by the Taiwan High Court, which deemed the original punishment too lenient.
The Supreme Court has now confirmed the verdict, making it final and not subject to further appeal.
