The D-P-P has expelled a former assistant of Joseph Wu over allegations he was involved in a Chinese espionage case.
The D-P-P's Yilan County headquarters announced the expulsion of Ho Jen-chieh - who worked for Wu during his tenure as foreign minister between 2018 and 2024.
Tue Head of the D-P-P's Yilan headquarters Qiu Jia-jin said the decision was unanimous... because Ho's alleged actions severely damaged to the party's reputation and "run counter to the D-P-P's core values of freedom, democracy, human rights, and the rule of law."
Ho was detained by prosecutors in Taipei last Thursday after law enforcement authorities searched his residence.
Other suspects in the case include Wu Shang-yu, who worked as an adviser in President Lai Ching-te's office; Chiu Shih-yuan, a former deputy head of the D-P-P's Taiwan Institute of Democracy, and Huang Chu-rong, an assistant to D-P-P New Taipei Councilor Lee Yu-tien.
Reports say Ho was recruited to spy for China when he worked for the National Security Bureau and the Investigation Bureau in 2016 and he contiued to provided information to Beijing when he moved to Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2018.
